Once they customize their bookmark, let students pick out a particular Valentine's Day book to read from the classroom library. When it's time to move on to another activity, students can use their new bookmark to hold their place in the book. Alternatively, this could also make an excellent activity for a class party!

3. Valentine's Day Word Scrambles

Word scrambles are so much fun! These Valentine's word scrambles come with two versions featuring fun mixed-up Valentine's words for students to figure out. Here are some ideas for using these word scrambles:

  • Include them at a word work center
  • Use them as a fun "minute to win it" game at your party
  • Keep copies available as an early finisher activity
  • Include them as part of a fun Valentine's activity packet for students to work through at their party or to quietly work on if they finish their work early

5. Pass Out Valentine's Day Cards

Passing out Valentine's cards is a classic Valentine's activity. But, it can cause chaos in the classroom if you aren't organized! Here are a few tips for passing out valentines in the classroom:

  • Recommend that students don't put specific "To" names on the cards. (Alternatively, students could write something generic here, such as "My friend.")
  • Have students decorate a bag or box for students to drop cards in quickly. This way, messy piles aren't stacking up on the tables. Consider having this be a Valentine's Day classroom activity before passing out the valentines so that the containers aren't cluttering up the classroom all day. If you have students bring containers from home to decorate, keep some extra bags or boxes at the school for any students who forget to obtain one.
  • Students should set their "mailbox" on their table before handing out valentines. Allow a few students at a time to distribute their valentines, quickly dropping one in each student's container. As one group finishes, allow another group to begin. Passing valentines a few times versus all at once will help avoid students getting distracted, forgetting what they have already done, and just general chaos in the classroom.

Once all the valentines are passed out, students may return to their desks and go through their valentines. They should keep their valentines in their box or bag as much as possible to avoid mixing in with other students.

TeacherGoals tip: Keep some extra valentines (like these) in your classroom for students that may have forgotten to bring their own. They can quickly write their name on them and pass them out!

Psst..we also threw in some bonus Valentine's Day cards from the children's book, Markertown.

6. FREE "I Love You To Pieces" Writing Craft

This adorable craft is a great writing activity for early elementary students. Students will write a sentence about a particular person in their lives and why they love them. Then, they will glue a heart onto their paper and decorate it by gluing on colorful confetti or paper scraps. This activity makes a great bulletin board display or a meaningful Valentine's gift for the special person in the student's life!

Depending on the age of your students, this could be used as a writing activity during your regular instruction time. This can be a simple and quick activity for students who are more advanced writers during a classroom Valentine's party!
